Protecting Costa Rica’s Marine Life. One Pulse at a Time.

Join us in defending whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and the vibrant ecosystems of Golfo Dulce.

At the heart of conservation

Pulso Azul is a marine conservation organization based in Costa Rica, dedicated to protecting cetaceans, sea turtles, and restoring marine habitats like coral reefs and mangroves. Born from the legacy of Osa Ecology, we now work across Costa Rica with a deep focus on the unique Golfo Dulce ecosystem.

The 5 ways we make an impact:

1. Shining a Light on Biodiversity

Promote awareness of unique biodiversity found in the Golfo Dulce
We spotlight the extraordinary marine life of Golfo Dulce—including humpback whales, hawksbill turtles, and coral reefs—to build appreciation and global awareness of this rare tropical fjord and its conservation importance.

2. Educating for Ocean Stewardship

Provide environmental education opportunities to local community and international visitors and volunteers
Through school workshops, field training, citizen science, and volunteer programs, we equip people of all ages with the knowledge and inspiration to care for the ocean and its inhabitants.

3. Strengthening Partnerships for Protection

Build relationships and foster collaboration with governmental entities and similar interest groups
We work hand-in-hand with local government, research institutions, and NGOs to align efforts, share knowledge, and ensure cohesive protection of Costa Rica’s marine ecosystems.

4. Gathering Data That Drives Action

Collect data on key species that is quantifiable, qualitative, and scalable
Our research on cetaceans, sea turtles, and marine habitats is both scientifically rigorous and community-connected—helping create a baseline for understanding ecological trends and threats.

5. Turning Research Into Policy

Leverage findings to support and enhance current protection levels, potentially influencing related legislation
We use science as a tool for advocacy, channeling data into policy discussions that strengthen conservation laws, marine management plans, and protected area designations.

6. Creating Real Impact in the Water

Ways We Make a Difference
From rescuing injured sea turtles and restoring coral nurseries to certifying responsible whale-watching guides, our hands-on projects deliver measurable results for ocean life in Golfo Dulce and beyond.

Why Golfo Dulce?

Golfo Dulce is one of the world’s only tropical fjords and a haven for marine biodiversity. Home to humpback whales, hawksbill turtles, and vibrant coral reefs, it’s a region worth protecting—now more than ever.

Just to be around such passionate and knowledgeable people is so inspiring, let alone having the opportunity to work alongside them and to help the turtles has been fantastic! We received such a warm welcome and the location is so beautiful. Seeing how hard the team works to keep the beach clean has really made me think about my plastic use and lifestyle.”
